Hindustani classical music learning typically progresses through different levels representing foundation to mastery proficiency, as set by Indian School of Music. Each level builds upon the previous, culminating in mastery of various aspects like Raga, Tala, Swara, and Bhava. Certifications and exams do accompany these levels.
Foundation
The foundation level of Hindustani classical vocals focuses on building the basic understanding and skills necessary for further learning.
The goal at this level is to develop a strong foundation in sur (melody) and taal (rhythm), which are essential to progress in Hindustani classical music.
